Dr. Marty Makary, newly appointed FDA Commissioner under HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is championing a science-driven approach to rebuild trust in public health, as he shared in a recent discussion.

Addressing the forced resignation of Dr. Peter Marks, the FDA’s former top vaccine regulator, Makary notes Marks’ claim that Kennedy demanded “subservient confirmation of misinformation” and sought to edit or erase the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) database.

Marks accused Kennedy of undermining confidence in vaccines, alleging he wanted direct access to VAERS to manipulate data. Makary emphasizes that VAERS, while flawed as a self-reported database, is critical for flagging issues like myocarditis in teenage boys post-COVID mRNA vaccination—a risk some parents remain unaware of.

He supports Kennedy’s call for access to VAERS to better understand adverse events, not to erase them, and pledges to improve the system’s reliability. “Parents deserve clear answers, not dogma,” Makary insists, noting that current guidelines recommend healthy 12-year-olds receive their eighth mRNA booster, a policy he questions without robust risk-benefit data.

Reflecting on Marks’ tenure, Makary highlights a House Judiciary Committee hearing revealing Marks forced out two top FDA vaccine scientists, Dr. Marion Gruber and Dr. Philip Krause, for objecting to arbitrary mandates, like boosters for six-year-olds.

“They raised valid concerns about the repeat booster strategy for kids,” Makary says, stressing that silencing dissent harms science. He never met Marks, who resigned before Makary’s appointment, but acknowledges mixed views on his legacy.

Makary’s FDA will welcome rigorous questioning, rejecting the “party line” approach. “Science thrives on challenging assumptions with no good evidence,” he says. To foster open dialogue, he plans expert roundtables on topics like vaccine safety and hormone therapy.

With Kennedy, Makary aims to deliver “gold-standard science” to address America’s questions, ensuring policies reflect truth over dogma.
