The book of acts begins when just before the Lord Jesus departs into heaven, He instructs the apostles to wait in Jerusalem for the Holy Spirit. 120 disciples receive the holy spirit and preach to a crowd assembled there. 3,000 repent and are baptized into the name of Jesus for the forgiveness of their sins, with the promise of the gift of the holy spirit to all who receive this message, and they continue in the apostles' teachings. Thereafter the holy spirit proves God's words spoken by the apostles through signs, wonders and miracles. Peter and John by God's power heal a beggar and then preach to a crowd and are arrested but soon released from prison as the church continues its growth. Stephen, a holy spirit filled waiter on tables, testifies of Christ and is later the first Christian martyred for his faith, While Saul who later was converted and became Apostle Paul, is there agreeing to his death. He goes about to persecute Christians but has a God experience and is baptized into Christ. Samaria and the Gentiles receive the word of God, and then persecution begins once again in earnest against the church, as some are killed or put in prison. Paul preaches through the Mediterranean to Jews and Gentiles on missionary work with other believers. Great signs and miracles such exorcisms and people healed by shadows occur. A decision is made in Jerusalem concerning the new converts as Paul receives a vision to preach in Macedonia and Greece among other areas. Trouble arrives for Paul along the way in various forms, but he continues to preach and soon all of the known world knows the gospel message. He stays for a time in Ephesus but leaves for Jerusalem with some disciples but is later arrested. After a lengthy prison sentence Paul appeals to Ceasar and goes by sea to Rome where he faces various hardships, preaches the gospel to all and heals many in Jesus' name and ultimately reaches Rome. In conclusion, this is where the church of the lord Jesus Christ began. the book itself shows the acts of faith by the apostles, who were often persecuted and seen as new religion. They had a tightly held community of believers and a bond of peace in the midst of miracles, tribulation and conversions. All the rest of the New Testament is essentially a spinoff of what transpired from this new church.
