This pelican found itself trapped by a fishing lure caught in its wing at Salvo Beach on Hatteras Island in North Carolina. Some kind visitors came to the rescue and managed to wrap a coat around the bird’s beak and cut off the lure. The rescue was recorded and shared by Val Newcomb, who later called for more attention to the plight of pelicans who feed along the coast of the Carolinas. “After shooting this video and doing some research, I realised this happens very often and most of the time, fishermen just cut their lines, leaving hooks embedded and the birds are flying impaired or worse,” Val said to Storyful.
