🏛️ Early Church Perspective:
* St. Cyril of Alexandria: “The fig tree represents the synagogue… full of leaves, but lacking the fruit of faith and obedience.”
* St. Hilary of Poitiers: “This was not a punishment of nature, but a prophecy against fruitless religion.”
* The Fathers saw the fig tree as a stand-in for every believer who has the form of godliness but none of its power.
* The outer leaves are rituals. The fruit is humility, repentance, mercy, and obedience.
