Johnson faces fraught week as House takes up Trump budget blueprint

Speaker Mike Johnson is facing a tough battle this week as he tries to rally House Republicans behind a Senate-passed budget resolution that advances Trump’s agenda of tax cuts, border funding, and energy policy.

Several conservatives, including members of the House Budget Committee, have already vowed to oppose the measure, criticizing it as weak on spending cuts and full of budget gimmicks.

The Senate plan directs just $4 billion in cuts, far below the $1.5 trillion the House must find, sparking backlash from the Freedom Caucus.

Johnson, with only a three-vote margin, is trying to unify his party amid growing dissent, The Hill has reported.

Trump has endorsed the resolution and urged Republicans to pass it immediately, and the White House is actively lobbying House GOP members to support it ahead of a vote expected this week.
