Members of Congress swear to protect and defend the Constitution, but Rubio would prefer to trash the First Amendment in order to pander to "pro-Israel" hard-liners.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio fired back at critics of the arrest of Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil, saying that it is 'not about free speech.'

Khalil was a graduate student and legal U.S. resident involved in the anti-Israel protests at Columbia University last year who was detained on Saturday night by ICE.

His arrest has ignited a fierce debate over whether the Trump administration violated his First Amendment rights by detaining him and trying to deport him.

Jenin Younes is Litigation Counsel for the New Civil Liberties Alliance. Having always been a passionate advocate for individual liberties, Jenin spent the first part of her career as an appellate public defender, providing representation to indigent clients convicted of criminal offenses in New York City. In this capacity, she briefed and argued countless appeals in New York’s Appellate Division, Second Department, and several cases in the New York State Court of Appeals.

Her writing on these subjects has been published in the Wall Street Journal, Tablet Magazine, and Bloomberg Law, among other outlets.
