Farmers Beg Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) Not to Kill Their Ostriches, Are Told They Must Follow Policy

On January 24, 2025, during a CFIA inspection at Universal Ostrich Farms, Karen begs them to not kill their animals and shares their names.

Agent #1 responds: “This isn’t something that we want to be doing, but there’s a policy in place that we must follow.”

Karen pleads with the agents to reconsider their policies.

Agent #2 responds: “That’s not our decision to make, to go against the entire industry. That decision is made from national industry in consultation with the CFIA and the Canadian government. If you want to say okay, we’re not going to eradicate, we want to move to something different, that’s a conversation that has to happen at the national level."
