Fiddlesticks
"Fiddlesticks" marks a significant milestone in animation history as the inaugural film in the Flip the Frog series, directed by Ub Iwerks after his departure from Walt Disney. This cartoon is notable for being the first complete sound cartoon shot in two-strip Technicolor, showcasing vibrant colors and synchronized sound through the Powers Cinephone system, the same technology that brought sound to Disney's "Steamboat Willie" in 1928. The narrative follows Flip the Frog in his musical adventures, engaging in a series of humorous and musical antics. Released simultaneously with the musical revue "King of Jazz," "Fiddlesticks" also featured a promotional cartoon explaining how Paul Whiteman became known as the "King of Jazz," tying into the film's premiere. This short not only demonstrates Iwerks's technical innovation but also his creative vision in animation, setting a new standard for the medium with its use of color and sound.
