China is planting 100 BILLION trees… but is it really saving the planet?
While deforestation is wiping out forests for mining and palm oil, China launched the Great Green Wall in 1978—a project to fight desertification by turning the Gobi Desert green. Sounds amazing, right? But here’s the catch…
To stop sand from spreading, they plant trees using straw-filled boxes and an underground drip irrigation system. Fast-growing trees like Saxaul and Willow are used, and March 12 was even made National Tree Planting Day!
But critics say mass tree planting isn’t always the answer. Some trees die due to poor soil, and others disrupt the natural ecosystem. So, is this a green revolution or just another eco-disaster in disguise?
