Tropical Storm Michael hit southeastern Virginia on Thursday, October 11, causing severe flooding in Roanoke. Video taken from Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital showed the Roanoke River overflowing its southern bank and forming a lake that covered nearby roadways. Only hours after the video was taken, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management reported at least 145,000 state residents were without power due to heavy rain and winds.
