Nikola Tesla (Brief biography)

Nikola Tesla (1856-1943) was an inventor, Serbian-American electrical and physical engineer. He is considered one of the most important inventors and scientists in history, and his work laid the foundations for many of the technological advances of the twentieth century.

Life and career

Tesla was born in Smiljan, Croatia, in 1856. He studied electrical engineering at the Technical University of Graz, in Austria, and then worked for the continental telegraph company Edison in Paris.

In 1884, Tesla emigrated to the United States, where he worked for Thomas Edison in New York. However, Tesla and Edison had creative and personal differences, and Tesla soon left the company to found its own company, Tesla Electric Light & Manufacturing.
