Both authors identify themselves as "slaves" of Jesus Christ, a term denoting complete devotion and submission, which in a monotheistic Jewish context implies a recognition of Jesus' divine status. James begins his letter: "James, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ" (James 1:1), and Jude introduces himself similarly: "Jude, a slave of Jesus Christ and brother of James" (Jude 1:1). This dual identification suggests an elevation of Jesus to a divine status alongside God.

Furthermore, both epistles refer to the anticipated "coming" (parousia) of the Lord in judgment, a term commonly associated in the New Testament with Jesus' return. James encourages believers to be patient "until the coming of the Lord" (James 5:7), and Jude warns of "scoffers" in the last time, indicating a belief in Jesus' future judgment (Jude 1:17-18). The use of "parousia" in this context aligns with other New Testament references to Jesus' return, reinforcing the view of Jesus as the divine judge.

Additionally, Jude's epistle contains a doxology that attributes glory, majesty, power, and authority to Jesus Christ before all time, now, and forever (Jude 1:25). This ascription of eternal attributes to Jesus further supports the understanding that Jude regarded Jesus as possessing a divine nature.
