The extent of the growing Holy Fire could be readily seen from the air as it burned in the canyons above Lake Elsinore, California, on Thursday, August 9. These videos were shot from a tanker dropping retardant on the flames. The sound of the retardant release can be heard plainly in the video, although the drop can’t be seen. The Holy Fire was nearing 10,000 acres at midday on Thursday, and officials said high temperatures and low humidity created optimum burn conditions. Credit: Drew P Hansen via Storyful
