Thousands of people sporting green bandanas in support of legalized abortion in Argentina filled the streets outside the National Congress in Buenos Aires on August 8 as the Senate debated a bill to allow the procedure up to the 14th week. The bill passed Argentina’s Chamber of Deputies by a slim margin in June, according to reports, sparking a renewed effort from grassroots women’s rights activists to promote the cause, despite backlash in the overwhelmingly Catholic country, birthplace of Pope Francis. This footage, filmed by staff of the International Women’s Health Coalition, shows demonstrators carrying signs, beating drums and dancing in support of the legalization of abortion in Argentina.
