The city of Phoenix was hit by a dust storm on Thursday, August 2, amid a series of severe weather warnings from the National Weather Service. Dust storms like this one, also known as haboobs, frequently precede severe monsoon storms, as the stormy weather stirs up desert dust on its way across the flat landscape. This video shows the dust storm rolling through the Tempe neighborhood. Phoenix was also subject to extreme weather conditions on Monday, July 30, when the city was swept by a monsoon storm.
