Areas of Lynchburg, Virginia, were flooded on August 2 and 3, causing evacuations, and damage to property. The National Weather Service said the College Lake Dam, near Lynchburg, was “above capacity” and that there was some uncontrolled flow from it. It was being closely monitored, they said. The Lynchburg Department of Emergency Services said the threat of the dam failing caused evacuations for residents in the Blackwater Creek Trail area. Drivers were advised to stay off the road. Authorities extended the flash flood warning for the city until at least 11.30 am on August 3. Credit: April Freer Likins via Storyful
