Mr. Maxford is all set to announce the winners of his slogan contest on his national radio show, but this is delayed by 1 stubborn committee judge. As a result, the radio program ends without an winner, and a series of unfortunate circumstances occur...

Office worker Jimmy dreams of winning the contest. He hopes to provide luxuries for mother and marry Betty. Jimmy's co-workers trick him into thinking he won the $25,000 first prize.

Jimmy's boss, J. B. Baxter, is so impressed that he promotes Jimmy on the spot to advertising executive. Jimmy gets his own office, private secretary, and a raise.

When Jimmy arrives to collect the winnings, Mr. Maxford assumes the committee reached a decision and writes a check to Jimmy. Next stop is a shopping spree at Shindel's department store.
