Model Jocelyn Corona wants more latinx representation in entertainment.

“There is not a lot of representation for us. We don’t really have that many opportunities to say, like, ok cool. This is my culture. This is what I do. This is where I came from. And this is my story,” she explained.

Corona left her home in Mexico at 17 to pursue a career in modeling after she was discovered on Facebook. The now 21-year-old says she had to develop a thick skin to deal with the hypercritical industry.

“It really helped me a lot to figure out what I like, what I’m not going to allow people to tell me, and what I stand for,” she said. “People are always gonna say I look too big or I’m not what they’re looking for. But that doesn’t mean that I’m not good enough. And I need to learn to don’t take those things personal because otherwise this is just not gonna work. There’s always someone that is gonna put you down.”

Jocelyn Corona sees herself as more than just a plus size model and is proud to be Mexican because her heritage has taught her to love and care for people wholeheartedly.
