A thick, yellowish fog covered San Francisco on July 1 as smoke and ash from fires in nearby counties crossed the Bay Area, prompting a poor air quality warning. Residents with breathing issues, children and the elderly were advised not to exert themselves and watch for symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath. Cal Fire said on July 1 that a fire covering 32,500 acres in Lake County, Napa County and Yolo County was 2 percent contained. A number of mandatory evacuations were in place.
