Voters on the island of Cozumel in Mexico lined the streets to wait for their turn to vote in Mexico’s general election on July 1. The vote will appoint a president and new Senate and Chamber of Deputies members. The lead-up to the election was marred by violence as reports said at least 130 candidates and political workers were killed in assassinations in almost a year prior. On July 1, an election fact-checking group reported local election officials in the towns of Charo and Tarímbaro, Michoacán, confirmed that armed robbers stole ballots.
