WHAT TO EXPECT:
The State will continue its case in chief and present digital/forensic evidence aiming to tie Ibarra to the murder of Riley.

SO FAR:
Friday was Day 1 of the bench trial for Jose Ibarra, the illegal alien accused of murdering Laken Riley. The State's Opening Statement described the events on 2/22/24 from Riley leaving her house at 9:03 AM to her 991 call, disappearance, the search and the evidence later obtained. The State alleged that they will present forensic, digital and video evidence to establish that her death was murder (not an accident) and that DNA, fingerprints, cell phone data and video evidence all point to Jose Ibarra committing murder and SA amongst a host of lesser crimes that instruct conviction on 10 separate charges. The Defense alleges that the evidence is circumstantial.

The State called up two of Riley's roommates who testified how they helped unearth her disappearance and track her general location before calling police. The officer who found her body further testified.

BACKDROP:
Laken Riley's murder became a flashpoint for America's outrage at the Biden Administration's perceived failure to properly secure the southern border. The trial of the accused commenced on Friday.
