The news has broken that Iran has launched over 100 missiles toward Israel. The targets appear to be widespread across Israeli territory. It’s a very dire time for America’s ally right now.
In the hours leading up to this attack, the Biden-Harris Administration had received intelligence asserting that Iran would soon launch a missile attack on Israel to avenge the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. The U.S. shared the intelligence with Israel, believing that Iran could launch a ballistic missile attack on Israel by nightfall, and warned that “[a] direct military attack from Iran against Israel will carry severe consequences for Iran.”
The Biden-Harris Administration’s warning of an impending missile strike strongly contradicts their usual position of calling for Israel to de-escalate the situation. Hence, the White House recognized the gravity of the threat. We will have to see if the Biden-Harris Administration follows through on their warning to Iran, seeing that the attack has indeed occurred.
Israel rightly took the threat seriously. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised to have the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on guard: “We will stand firm together in the challenging days ahead.” And as our broadcast aired, the IDF announced that the attack was underway.
Unfortunately, this attack could prove to be more effective than the rocket brigade of 300 rockets that all got shot down by the Iron Dome this past April. Our ACLJ office in Jerusalem informed us that the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem had issued a high alert level to its employees, instructing them to return home. Many Israelis took cover in bomb shelters in preparation for this possible attack.
Israel is on the brink of another major conflict – one that could potentially be much more serious than what happened on October 7. The brutality that took place on that awful day against 1,200 Jews doesn’t compare at this point, but a missile attack could do extreme damage to a major population area. The loss of life could be significant.
