I'm not bashing unions because there are some really good ones out there that I wish I had when I was a union member most of my life. The unions I'm used to just do whatever the employer said as long as it involved a raise because that means the union rep got one too. I was involved in getting rid of the union my co workers and I were forced to be in. I studied union law and went over our contract with a fine tooth comb and I did a deep dive on the union we had. I found out that Pennsylvania was not a right to work state and I was required to pay union dues BUT there was an exception. Even though I was forced to be in the union that I didn't agree with, I had the option of becoming a fee payor. I got a check from the union every year that was over $100 and I was supposed to get a few dollars a month but I didn't push it or object to their financial records. I was not involved in the union actives anymore and every quarter they had to send me a detailed report of everything related to their money and my dues payment. It was funny because not only did I still get the same protection from the union and a hundred dollars or so back a year but I was the only one in the entire region and possibly out of all of the entire IBEW union. The President of the union hated me with a passion but oh well I smiled and offered to file everyone elses paperwork but everybody was too scared. The union we had was convicted of embezzlement LOTS of times and surprisingly some got serious jail time.
