This is the shocking moment a violent 18-year-old kicks a little boy inside a crowded market after saying he was suffering from "exam stress".

CCTV footage from Yiwu International Trade City in Yiwu City in East China’s Zhejiang Province shows the boy, 4, running towards his little brother who is sitting on the floor when the secondary school pupil strikes.

The younger boy is sent flying backwards after the teenager approaches and extends his right leg. He kicks the child victim in the midriff with such force it causes him to collapse onto the floor.

The injured child's stunned mother, who was minding her younger son, is so shocked she does not even appear to yell at the schoolboy, who turns and walks away.

The mum surnamed Guang however said the police had investigated the incident after she complained and tracked down the suspect and his family.

"They detained him for 10 hours and let him go after he claimed a psychological disorder caused by study stress before his exams," the mother said, adding that the suspect and family did not apologise.

The four-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment and did not suffer any life-threatening injuries. However, his mum said he is now frequently waking up from nightmares and refusing to speak.

There has been no suggestion of further punishment for the schoolboy from the police.
