Etymology
Uncertain:

Probably from Proto-Permic [Term?], from Proto-Uralic *kojemɜ. Cognates include Hungarian hím (“male”) and Northern Mansi хум (hum, “man, male”).[1][2]
Alternatively, from a dialectal compound *ком (*kom) + *ми (*mi, “land”) (compare му (mu)), the first part of the compound being related to Udmurt кам (kam, “river”) and Finnish kymi (“wide river”). Thus, the name would originally mean something like "inhabitant of the river Kama" (also see Russian Кама (Kama)).[2]
