Awaken Biblical Prophecy Commentary – Two Blessings

Several instances of twins show up in Scripture. When this occurs, contrary to most cultures, including that of the Jews, it’s not unusual for the younger brother to take precedence over the older. The blessing given, which changes the order of the siblings in these families, doesn’t come simply because a father or grandfather prefers the younger over the older. It comes about because the one giving the blessing has been instructed by God. Exactly why the Lord brings this about is one of those mysteries that rests in the omniscience and foreknowledge that only God has. This reversal typically provides God’s favor for the younger to benefit the Jewish people while the older departs from the covering of the Almighty into a secular life.
