223: Women In Combat // Quotas Hurt The Whole Team

Should Women serve in combat roles in the military? The recent attempt on President Trump's life brings up the old debate about women in the military and women in combat roles. Framing tends to drive this conversation, and we continually get bogged down in redundant questions. Can women do the job? Are women capable of the achieving the standards? What about the non-physical elements of a protective detail?

Do we define the whole by only the deviations from the norm?

Or, is this whole debate beginning from the wrong foundation?

When quotas are required, the more arbitrary to the success of the mission, the more harm they do to the whole as well as to the individuals. Imagine standing on the parade field of achievement, unsure of whether you crossed the finish line, or if the standards were lowered just so you could be someone else's show pony.
