This is the moment a toddler climbs outside an open fifth-storey window and perches dangerously on the side of a residential building.

The incident was captured on camera by a neighbouring resident, who repeatedly says "don’t move" as the child walks along the thin windowsill.

Footage from the city of Changchun, capital of Jilin Province in north-eastern China, shows the tot squatting down outside the large sitting-room window on the fifth floor.

The video author says "my god" when the baby, whose gender is still unclear, appears to stand up and start moving, with nothing to hold to prevent a potentially deadly fall.

Witnesses, who were reportedly gathered below holding blankets and quilts in a bid to catch the tot in case of a fall, could also be shouting "stop moving" at the child, who did not appear to be crying or even scared.

Neighbouring residents said the child stood outside edge of the windowsill for about five minutes before a woman appeared by the window and snatched the tot back inside to safety.

The footage then shows the group of witnesses, including a female corner shop owner, leaving the scene with the blankets they had prepared.

It is still unclear who the toddler was at home with at the time of the scare.
