A dam burst on May 9 in Nakuru County, Kenya resulted in the deaths of 150 people and the displacement of hundreds of others. The Daily Nation reported that a search and rescue operation was ongoing on Thursday after the walls of Solai’s Patel Dam broke around 9pm on Wednesday. Bloomberg reported the death toll had climbed to 150. The dam was constructed in the 1980s and was not cleared by government engineers and was illegally maintained, the newspaper reported. The Kenya Red Cross said it was supporting about 500 displaced families following the tragedy.
