Stephen King was born in Portland, Maine in 1947 and has been relocating throughout his childhood only to end up once again in Maine. Apparently he witnessed the death of his childhood friend when he was hit by a train, and some critics say that this might have lead King towards the horror genre. He, however claims that his love for horror began when he found an old H. P. Lovecraft horror book that belonged to his father. His works have been published in many languages and many of them have been adapted into feature films, miniseries, television series, and comic books. He has published a total of 54 novels and 7 of them were published under his pen name Richard Bachman.
