Russian servicemen took the Colombian fighting alongside the AFU near Krasnogorovka. Angel Cardenas Montilla came to Ukraine after he saw a post in the TikTok were mercenaries were enlisted to fight against Russian.
Former Colombian policeman without any combat experience went through ‘basic training at the training ground’ during which he and nine of his compatriots were shown ‘how to shoot, throw grenades, and launch an assault’.
He surrendered to Russian troops, when all of his compatriots died. He remembered his family, four of his children, and the AFU didn’t pay him even the first salary. He changed the uniform for civilian trousers and a jacket, dropped his weapon, and went from the shelter with his hands up. ‘Ukrainians lied to us, they said, that we were supposed to guard a building, but they sent us directly to the front line,’ he said. Angel said that foreigners like him who came to Ukraine are simply deceived by the AFU command and sent to their deaths: ‘Because we want to earn money and do something we don't know how to do, we ended up one foot in the grave because they (AFU) abandoned us, they never supported us.’ Despite the language barrier, the Colombian is treated ‘very well in Russian captivity, constantly offered food and water,’ he said.
