The freedom from the attachment to the image of oneself allows one to laugh at themselves, and not take their "selves" too seriously. A common reason one doesn't laugh at themselves when they ought to is because they are bothered by the hurt or damaged image of themselves in their mind. But what is damaged and causing them to not laugh is just that, an image which is not representative of the whole. The whole being that which is incomprehensible, and that which is laughter at its essence.
