Mental health is health and a critical element in overallhealthcare. Mental health conditions now account for nearly a quarter of all maternal deaths in the UnitedStates. One in eight new moms experiencespostpartum depression according to the Centers forDisease Control, but there is some light on the horizonas the Food & Drug Administration recently approvedthe first-ever pill for postpartum depression.

Postpartum depression is a health condition that canoccur up to 1 year after having a baby, but mostcommonly starts 1-3 weeks after childbirth. It is oftencharacterized as strong feelings of sadness andanxiety. Moms may also experience a loss of appetite,insomnia, and difficulty bonding with their baby.
