This is the shocking moment a man was stabbed to death in the street by two attackers said to be members of the Russian security forces.

The incident was caught on CCTV security cameras in a ski resort near Mount Elbrus, Europe's highest mountain, in the Elbrussky District of south-western Russia's Kabardino-Balkar Republic.

Local media reports that the 25-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, was killed by two off duty security agents on holiday in the region.

Two men have been arrested by police. The Pravda newspaper said the pair were employees of "one of Russia's law enforcement agencies".

The footage begins with two people confronting each other on an icy street. One man swings a punch at the other who pulls a knife from his back pocket.

The other man starts to run off but is cut off by the knife man's friend who is running to help him. He also pulls a knife and the pair then begin circling the victim.

The 25-year-old bravely tried to fight off his attackers, reaching into his pockets for something to fend them off with, eventually using his mobile phone to try to summon help.

But eventually he is outnumbered and one of the attackers finally stabbed the man in the stomach and then cut his throat. The pair left him dying in the street and walked off.

However, they were quickly arrested by police and are being held in custody. It is not reported whether they have yet been charged with the man's murder.

The graphic video footage of the murder has been shared on social media where it has been shocking viewers.

Netizen ‘zaym’ commented: "They feel they are protected by authorities, this is why they killed the man so boldly."

While ‘kaysy’ added: "He killed him so cold-heartedly. I think they might get away with it. But if the story gets widely covered, then the court will be impartial. They should be judged by the military court."

Mount Elbrus is the highest mountain in Europe, and the tenth most prominent peak in the world. It has two summits, the taller west summit is 5,642 metres (18,510 feet) high.
