This is the shocking moment a tour bus smashed into the back of a lorry leaving the conductor dead and rescuers battling to save those on board.

A shocking video shows both the moment of impact and the aftermath of the fatal collision with injured passengers still trapped inside the crumpled wreckage of the bus.

Footage, shot from a passing car, shows how the bus ploughed into a gravel truck at speed on the Karak Expressway near the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur.

Another clip, believed to be shot by a first responder, shows how the front of the bus was caved in by the force of the impact.

The bus driver can be seen standing in shock next to the shattered vehicle, his clothing splattered with blood, as rescuers attempt to reach those trapped inside.

The footage then cuts to inside the bus, which is still filled with passengers, who appear to be dazed and injured.

Some passengers seem unable to move due to their injuries and one has blood streaming from a wound in his head.

There do not appear to be seatbelts on the bus and some of the television screens, for in journey entertainment, are cracked from the impact of people’s faces hitting them.

It is eerily quiet inside the bus except for the sound of one rescuer telling the passengers to make their way to the emergency exit.

The bus was returning from the Genting Highlands resort at the time of the accident on Saturday afternoon.

The Malaysian bus conductor, Carles Lagan, 26, was trapped near the front of the bus and died at the scene.

A following 13 people were injured, of these, 11 are Singaporeans aged between 19 and 81 years old, who were conveyed to hospital for treatment.

One passenger Yip Keng Yim, 19, said: "It happened so fast and everybody was thrown off their seat."

It is thought that five people are still in hospital following the crash although there is no further information about their condition.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
