Terrified residents fear their new apartment block is haunted after a children’s swing was filmed moving by itself with what appears to be a ghostly figure standing beside it.

A creepy video shows the hanging seat moving back and forth even though there was no-one sat in it with a what looks like a mysterious apparition in the playground with long black hair, wearing flowing white robes.

Many locals now believe that the flats in the suburb of Kempas, in the city Johor Bahru, in Johor State, south-western Malaysia, are haunted.

There have also been claims of scratching sounds on windows well above the ground at the flats, the quarters of the city’s fire and rescue department.

Special prayers were held at the site on Sunday, although the authorities say they are not taking the "sighting" seriously.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said he had experienced "weird incidents" since moving in a few months ago.

He said: "I live near the playground. Sometimes, at night, I hear someone or something scratching on the windows of my unit.

"This is impossible because there is no way anyone can climb up that high in the dark."

Footage, showing a playground in the shadow of an apartment block, near a religious temple, appears to capture the swing moving by itself.

It is thought to have been recorded one evening by a resident living in the flats nearby.

Mohamad Riduan Akhyar, a spokesman for Johor Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer, said no one had complained about the "extra resident" seen in the video.

He said it could just be a coincidence that someone wearing white happened to be nearby when the clip was recorded.

The apartments are currently 80 percent full and another resident, who did not want to be named, said: "Hopefully when more people are living here, the ghost, or whatever it is, will leave the area."
