This is the hilariously adorable moment police pull over two five-year-old boys for riding a mini-motorbike on a busy main road and the little lad with the helmet bursts into tears.

Police could not believe their eyes when they spotted the pair in the city of Sampang in Indonesia's East Java province.

An eyewitness with a smartphone filmed the police officers gently explaining to the boys that they were breaking the law.

"You need to be wearing helmets," one policeman tells the bike rider, named only as Restu.

The little boy, who was wearing a helmet although his friend was not, replied: "My friend back there too? I am wearing this helmet."

"Yes, you both need to wear helmets," the officer says.

The cops offer to escort the pair home but when they look frightened they offer to take them for a snack first.

But a worried-looking Restu asked: "Then where will we go? Then my bike will be taken?"

One officer tells him: "Don’t worry, we don’t want to take your bike."

But Restu begins to cry: "What if I have to buy another bike? I don’t have any money!"

Eventually the cops reportedly allowed Restu to ride back to his house with a police escort.

Police said his worried grandparents had been looking for him as he did not normally take his motorcycle outside of their yard.

Restu is currently living with his grandfather and grandmother as his parents work in another city.

It turned out that Restu's father was involved in motorcycle racing, possibly explaining his confidence on his machine at such a young age.

Police kept their promise to let Restu keep the bike but asked his grandparents to keep a closer eye on him.
