Commuters in France faced severe travel disruption on April 3 and 4 as railway workers began the first in a series of two-day strikes. Footage posted on Tuesday, April 3, shows people climbing through the windows onto a train at Gare de Lyon in Paris. One man is seen handing a small child through a window before following himself. The head of the SNCF, France’s state-owned rail company, said that only 10 to 20 percent of trains were expected to be running during the day, La Depeche reported. The four main rail workers unions support the strike, organised in opposition to government plans to make the SNCF profitable. Some unions see this as a step toward privatization, Reuters said.
