A young nanny faces a fine of up to 7,300 GBP for apparently beating an infant girl while playing on her smartphone.

The nanny cam footage filmed at the home of the 26-year-old minder surnamed Chen appeared to show her patting the eight-month-old girl’s chest strongly while supposedly trying to stop her from crying.

The nanny from Changhua County in West Taiwan is said to have been minding at least two other children on the day and was apparently short on patience, the infant’s family members claimed.

They reported the nanny to Changhua’s Department of Social Welfare after the video showed the infant girl being handled roughly, with the minder pulling the baby towards her and then pushing her away when she refused a dummy.

"If this were your child, would you be able to accept this kind of treatment?" the parent Lee Chun wrote.

Lee said they confronted the nanny about what they have alleged as "abuse", but the young woman said her actions were "normal", adding: "That was nothing."

Huang Li-chuan, a social welfare official in charge of child and youth affairs, confirmed that a case file had been opened on the nanny, who is being investigated for mistreatment.

Huang said the woman faces a fine of up to 300,000 TWD (7,302 GBP) if found guilty.
