Dramatic CCTV footage has captured the moment a speeding driver squeezes between two cars and ends up bursting into flames after crashing into and felling a tree.

The driver identified by his surname Chen, 25, is believed to have been knocked unconscious by the high-speed collision with the roadside vegetation, burning alive in his saloon.

Traffic camera footage from Tainan City’s Dongshan District in south-western Taiwan shows a lorry attempting to overtake a slower-moving van when the victim’s white saloon suddenly crashes into the narrow space between them.

Tainan policeman and Baihe Precinct Chief Chen Chien-ming said he believes the driver wanted to overtake both vehicles but was going too fast to slow down when the lorry suddenly changed lanes to do the same.

The driver then lost control of his car and crashed into the roadside tree head-on, causing his car engine to burst into flames.

The victim, who was reportedly not wearing a seat belt, is believed to have been unconscious when the entire car was engulfed in flames in just 30 seconds.

The young man was declared dead at the scene, with an investigation into the accident now ongoing.

Local authorities did not say whether either the van or lorry drivers had already been cleared of any wrongdoing in the case.
