This shocking footage shows police beating and parading a gang of alleged rapists through city streets to "shame" them for abducting and raping a 20-year-old student.

The four suspects allegedly abducted and raped a 20-year-old college student in Bhopal, in Madhya Pradesh State, in Central India and threatened to kill her and her family.

The four accused were later paraded through busy streets where women slapped and beat them, including a female police officer, who beat them with a stick.

Police said the victim was abducted in Bhopal by two of the gang and taken to a house where the others joined them and raped her.

"All four involved have been arrested. One of the accused, who used to be her friend, tried to contact her and invited her to meet her at a friend's house to sort out issues. He then took her there and called some other friends to the place, where she was raped," said Rahul Kumar Lodha, Superintendent of Police.

The victim said her college friend Shailendra Dangi, 21, invited her to the house.

The two had a quarrel after which Shailendra snatched her cell phone and took her to his friend Sonu Dangi's room near Apsara cinema, reports said.

Sonu Dangi, 21, Dhiraj Rajput, 26, and Chiman Rajput, 25, were already there, according to the complainant.

Shailendra and Dhiraj threatened to kill the victim and her family, and raped her, while Sonu and Chiman helped the duo, she told police.

In November last year, a 19-year-old girl was kidnapped and gangraped by four men for nearly three hours near a rail station in Bhopal.
