Cyclone Nora: Landslide Covers Cairns Highway

Cairns motorists battled difficult conditions on Sunday, March 25, after a landslide triggered by rains from Cyclone Nora blocked parts of the Captain Cook Highway. The Cairns Post reported there would be “severe delays” for drivers between Oak Beach and Wangetti and Cairns was subject to flash flooding. The Bureau of Meteorology stated that between March 24-25 more than 100mm rain had fallen on the Daintree, north of Cairns. At the time of publication Cyclone Nora weakening, but was tracking down the western coast of Cape York, in Queensland’s far north, and heavy rainfall was forecast. Credit: Joseph Dietz via Storyful
