Two teenagers have been rescued by Spanish authorities after their older sister sold them for 10,000 EUR (8,900 GBP) per sibling after her husband allegedly raped the youngest.

Police officers found the 16- and 17-year-old Romanian girls during an operation that resulted in seven arrests.

The unnamed teens were being kept in the provinces of Valladolid and Zamora after their sister and brother-in-law offloaded them for 20,000 EUR (17,800 GBP).

The investigation began in November 2017 when officers were told about a resident in the city of Zamora who sold two girls to nearby mobs for 10,000 EUR per teenager.

According to local media, the girls ran away from their family home in the city of Valladolid after they were raped by their father.

They hid in the house of their older sister in Zamora and while they were staying there, the sister and her husband negotiated their sale with members of two gangs.

The 17-year-old was packed off to a clan in Zamora while her 16-year-old sister was sent to a gang in Valladolid.

The older teen was found by police in poor health, while the youngest sister said that she had been raped by her sister’s husband.

Officers raided two premises during the operation and have arrested seven people as the case continues.

The two teenagers were sent to a public care centre to receive specialist support.
