This is the moment a schoolboy jumps back into a river seconds after being rescued because his parents had forbidden him from playing phone games.

The unnamed teenager who lives in Yancheng City in China’s eastern Jiangsu Province reportedly also tried to take own life because he refused to go to school and his parents scolded him.

The incident happened on 25th February, the day before the boy’s winter holidays ended.

Footage taken by rescuers shows the authorities having pulled the boy out of the freezing cold waters for the first time, but they struggle to convince him to leave the riverbank.

Seconds later, he strips off his jacket he plunges back into the lake, leaving shocked rescuers running after him again.

The boy, who did not know how to swim, fortunately managed to pick a river that was not very deep, so the authorities were able to quickly gather him up again.

He did not suffer any serious injuries and was taken back to the police station, where he was met by his parents.

His mum and dad claimed he was a "top student" before his academics were "ruined" by his addiction to smartphone games.

They argued on the day of the incident because he was meant to prepare for school and he did not want to go.

They blamed his smartphone-addiction and banned him from playing games.
