The biggest concern in the late 1800's in London was that by 1950 the city would be under 10' of horse poop. Then, with the invention of the automobile, that problem disappeared, and society made a quantum leap.

In the same way, environmental wackos today are panicking about our critical CO2, and they are trying to destroy the Carbon Cycle and end life on Earth, but again, new technologies on the horizon might make "climate change" as amusing as the thought of London under 10' of horse poop.
