This is the moment a prime minister stole the show at a wedding party when he showed off his nimble footwork on the dancefloor.

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy, 62, was caught on camera 'dad dancing' with guests at a wedding in the city of Murcia in south-eastern Spain.

He certainly looked the part in a dark suit as he stepped back and forth to Spanish crooner Raphael's classic hit Mi Gran Noche (My Great Night), said to be his favourite song.

The prime minister was a witness at the wedding which was held at the city's Church of San Nicolas de Bari and followed by a reception at chef Pablo Gonzalez's two Michelin star restaurant, Cabana Buenavista.

Smartphone footage of the politician's performance on the dancefloor proved popular on social media and video-sharing platforms but not all of the viewers were impressed.

Netizen ‘Juanillo Montes’ mocked the PM's dance moves and added: "He has the same skills running... and governing", while ‘Neus Nova Mmdieciocho’ added: "I cannot see the funny way of insulting the intimity of Rahoy in private life events..."

It is not the first time that Mr Rajoy has been filmed dancing to Mi Gran Noche - a clip of him dancing to the song at a New Year's Eve party in 2005 also proved popular online.

Mr Rajoy became leader of the People's Party in 2004 and Prime Minister of Spain following the party's victory in the 2011 general election.

His party lost its majority in the 2015 general election but Mr Rajoy was re-elected Prime Minister as head of a minority government in a second election in 2016.
