A teenager with a rare and painful degenerative disease has pleaded to her government to allow her to die by euthanasia.

The young woman's heart-breaking condition, which has no clear diagnosis, began in 2013 when she went from being a healthy young teen to bed-ridden in a short space of time.

Nineteen-year-old Paula Diaz explains: "I cannot rest at all. The discomfort is so great that I do not relax day or night.

The young Chilean from the town of Talca in the Maule Region has launched a campaign to allow her to die voluntarily and has personally appealed to President Michelle Bachelet.

In video footage uploaded to social media by family members, the suffering woman says: "I beg you with all my strength to come and see me, because I cannot wait any longer.

Paula’s sister Vanessa told local media: "The deterioration process began in November 2013 with a series of unrelated symptoms, some of them unknown to specialists."

"First she suffered with involuntary movements and spasms and then she lost all feeling in her hands and legs."

Doctors were unable to diagnose a specific condition and the family embarked on a lengthy journey involving countless specialists, treatments and medical centres.

Experts "verbally" told the frantic mother that the condition could be "attributed to two vaccinations" given to her daughter in August 2013.

Paula has to lie in bed with her legs bent backwards while suffering from photophobia (extreme sensitivity to light) and feeling a constant burning sensation throughout her body.

She is unable to sleep and nothing relieves her from the constant discomfort. The poor teen added: "I will keep fighting for the President to help me. I only ask for peace as I cannot stand to be inside my body anymore."

In 2015, President Bachelet was petitioned to allow the euthanasia of 14-year-old Valentina Maureira, who posted a video on YouTube that went viral.

The girl suffered from Cystic Fibrosis and although her request to die voluntarily was turned down by the Chilean leader, she succumbed to her illness several months after posting the video request.
