This is the bizarre moment a loose horse was caught on camera galloping along a busy road in the Russian capital city of Moscow.

The unusual incident was caught on the dashcam of a Mercedes car that was being driven immediately behind the horse.

The animal was seen galloping down the middle of a boulevard in the Nizhinie Mnyovniki district of the city.

Other road users tried to keep out of the horse's way while a group of pedestrians waiting to cross the road took a nervous step backwards when they saw it coming towards them.

The horse appears to be dragging a large red plastic object behind it and passersby speculated that it had escaped from a nearby park.

Police are investigating the incident but it is not clear where the horse ended up or if it, or anyone else, was hurt.

The footage is proving popular with viewers after it was posted on video-sharing platforms.

Netizen ‘Nataly Ffff’ said: "The animal was scared and disoriented. It could have easily jumped into a car. Hope it ended up well."

‘Natasha Malysheva’ added: "Poor horsey", while ‘Riman Glebov’ commented: "The horseman must have got lost on the way."

‘Kot Maksim’ remembered the saying about Russian women being capable of stopping a horse at full gallop, and noted: "I don’t see a woman to stop the running horse!"
