This is the moment a brazen thief walks into an Apple retailer and pepper-sprays a female employee before making away with an iPhone 8.

The robbery happened in the city of Dongguan in China’s southern Guangdong Province, leaving the employee suffering from painful stings afterwards.

Footage from the Apple retailer shows the lone man walking in and picking up an iPhone 8, which is attached to the display table by a cord.

When the staff member approaches to help him, he walks up to her smiling and pulls out the canister of pepper spray, which he then releases in her face.

He snatches a different iPhone 8 worth 5,699 RMB (649 GBP) off the table and sprints out the door, with the incredibly brave employee giving chase despite her burning eyes.

A second staff member runs after the pair before the video ends.

The suspect was caught 26 hours after the incident. He was found with more than one mobile phone on his person, having been involved in a string of robberies.

Police in Dongguan, where Apple’s iPhones are made at the Foxconn factories, are still investigating the case.

Reports did not say whether the employee suffered any serious damage to her eyes.
