Drunk Lorry Driver Smashes Into Motorway Toll Booth
This is the shocking moment an allegedly drunk lorry driver smashed through a motorway toll booth without slowing down.
Five people were injured when the out-of-control vehicle hit five others as well as the booth on a motorway near the city of Konin in central Poland's Greater Poland Voivodeship region.
Footage from CCTV security cameras shows the lorry speeding towards the toll booth at 90 kph (56 mph) without slowing down.
As well as severely damaging the toll booth, it hit a minibus and four cars. Eyewitnesses filmed the aftermath of the accident on their smartphones.
Five people were rushed by ambulance to hospital for treatment to their injuries. There is no information on their condition.
Police say the lorry driver was found to have 2.9 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood in his system, well over the legal limit of two grammes.
The man told police he had only had one or two small bottles of beer but officers say his story is not credible.
He could face as much as ten years in prison for causing an accident that resulted in injuries after drinking alcohol.
Netizen ‘Aleksandrs Berkovics’ commented: "He should get locked up for 10 years. They could treat him for alcohol addition there as well."
While ‘Igor Poguretskiy’ added: "He is an idiot. I think 10 years is not enough, he should get a life sentence."
